Would You Pay for Facebook?
Would you pay for Facebook? That’s the question that Facebook itself is asking. According to Bloomberg, the idea of an ad-free paid subscription option could soon be a reality.
In 2017 Facebook generated over $41 billion from ad sales. They are not oblivious however to the fact that many users have decided to discontinue using Facebook largely over privacy concerns, highlighted recently by the Cambridge Analytica data breach. In an effort to retain users who may be considering pulling the plug on Facebook, they are exploring once again the option of allowing users to pay for an ad-free Facebook experience.
Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, has been open to the idea of subscription based access. “We certainly thought about lots of other forms of monetization including subscriptions, and we’ll always continue to consider everything,” said Sandberg.
During his congressional testimony, well known Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, commented on the issue. “There will always be a version of Facebook that is free,’’ he said.
So what do you think, would you be willing to pay for some privacy and a cleaner news feed?
